This week, we have put live a new version of our website. It focusses to a greater extent on the data services that we have been delivering to customers in the last year. A few short case studies outline the kind of work that we have successfully completed.
Overall, business has been good for us in a difficult year. Q4 2009, I am pleased to report, was a quarter in which aiHit was making great progress towards becoming cash flow positive. We are on a good way to achieving our first business goal of building a sustainable business. Q1 and Q2 this year, we will be launching several publicly available products that will be quite substantial in size. We will be updating you as we progress.

We have recently tweaked and updated the user interface of HitCompanies. These changes were based on user requests and our analysis of users’ behavior. None of the changes are major, but they should make HitCompanies just that bit easier to use.
Check it out here.
We are also working on some major improvements to HitCompanies. We hope to be able to release these changes soon, so stay tuned.

Our company database HitCompanies has just grown, as we have added several thousand companies to it. In addition, we have finalized the Advanced Search feature as well as the HitCompanies Commands (for now).
Expect to see HitCompanies grow over time, as we add an increasing number of companies to it over the coming weeks and months.

Today, we have put live search commands (search operators) that will make it easier to find relevant search results in HitCompanies.
We are using square brackets to denote the queries in the explanation below. The new commands are as follows:
Phrase search: placing a phrase in hyphen, for example [ "database processing" ] will return only exact results for this specific phrase.
Exact keyword: in order to find only exact keywords and to switch off all other forms of word stemming, synonyms, abbreviations and so forth, we can now use the plus sign. For example: [ +computer ] will only return results for computer, not for computers, computing and so forth. Placing a single word in hyphens (phrase search) has the same effect.
Not statement: We have now enabled the ability to exclude certain keywords. For example, if we are interested in the keyword [ computer ], but would like to exclude all results containing the keyword [ processing ], then we can use [ computer -processing ] to achieve this. The minus sign also works in combination with phrases, for example: [ computer -"computer processing" ].
All these commands are also indirectly supported in advanced search.

You can expect to see constant modification and improvement of HitCompanies over the coming months. We have various changes in the works, focussing on both user interface and the data contained in HitCompanies.
Yesterday, we released a new, modified version of the Advanced Search functionality in HitCompanies. This enables various new ways of searching the database, including a NOT statement, ability to search for companies by type of URL suffix (e.g. .com.au) as well as search for companies with a certain local telephone dialing code (e.g. +44 20).
